Droid X Rooted

Rooted my phone this past weekend to get rid of a lot of the bloatware installed on it. And to make it a wireless hotspot. What other cool things can you do with a rooted Droid?

Just use the other door

Foothills Mall is pretty close to Casa de Uncle. They have some trampolines and a little kids’ play area so I take the kids there regularly enough. I always go in the Belk entrance. Saturday, had to go there for something else and I went in the front door and saw this sign:

From Drop Box

Never seen such a sign on the other entrances I take.

Trouble is that, per TCA 39-17-1359, all entrances are to be posted.

Army Service Rifle Upgrades

So say Stars and Stripes:

Calling it “the biggest overhaul of service rifles in nearly 50 years,” the Army soon will send Soldiers to Afghanistan with new M4A1 carbines.

Upgrades to the M4 include a more resilient barrel, ambidextrous controls and a full-automatic setting. Add better ammunition, and Soldiers will have a more lethal weapon to fight insurgents, according to Program Executive Office Soldier, which introduced the improvements.

The new carbines are expected to be integrated into the force starting next year.

Speaking of cars

On travel, the rental car place automatically upgraded my rental. They gave me a Lincoln MKS, which is apparently the luxury model of the Taurus SHO. But it’s not quite tuned like the SHO. It was a fun car to drive. Roomy, adequate power and decent handling. However, it could really use some traction control. If you thumped the gas, the tires would squeal even in automatic transmission mode. And that’s just wasted forward momentum.

Also, paddle shifters are kind of stupid. See, a lot of times when you’re shifting gears, you’re also steering. And the shifters maybe upside down when you’re trying to get it into third and this can be problematic. In a straight line, however, it was quite fun when the tires actually gripped.

I used to joke they were made by commies

But I had no idea they really would be:

General Motors Co [GM.UL] is in the final stage of talks to sell equity to long-time Chinese partner SAIC Motor Corp (600104.SS) in conjunction with its landmark initial public offering, two people familiar with the matter said.

The two government-funded automakers are currently finalizing how much of a stake SAIC would buy in the top U.S. automaker after discussions involving technology sharing and SAIC’s ambitions to move beyond the China market, the sources said.

I’ll never own a GM product again because of their bailout money but the Cadillac CTS-V looks pretty damn awesome. A four door sedan that can do zero to sixty in 3.9 seconds. Cool.

More TSA stuff

Everyone is talking about opting out or not flying. Get in line, citizen.

Not a good idea

At an OC demonstration, the police make all attendees draw and unload their weapons. This, basically, takes the odds of there being a negligent discharge from roughly 0% to something greater than 0%. Stupid. Leave your guns in the holsters.

A recurring theme

Buy a truck, get a rifle.

There’s an app for that

And some goofy attachment. The iPhone stun gun.
