The wife got a Droid Incredible which she likes. It befuddles me because two weeks ago she couldn’t even answer my Droid when it rang and now she can’t live without hers. Kids are really into various games on our phones so I’ve been thinking about getting them an android tablet PC or maybe buying someone’s old phone that they don’t use anymore and using it with the wifi. This android tablet looks OK. Anyone have any experience with either of these plans?

In California, the measure to legalize marijuana failed. I’m kinda shocked. Even more shocking, Harry Reid won. The good news is that means no Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.

I’m pretty sure, right now somewhere, the Republicans are having a meeting and planning exactly how they’re going to fuck up this supposedly historic win. Count on it. It’s what they do. They did it in 1994 and 2002. They’ll do it again. My word of advice to them is to remember that this is not a mandate nor is it an acceptance of any agenda you idiots are putting together now. It is a rejection of the current state of affairs. If you, as I expect, continue doing the same expansion of government power and spending only with your name on it (like you did in the Bush years), you’ll be done. Get spending and government expansion under control. Don’t get all ban gay cooties and PATRIOT Act 3 on us.

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before. In Illinois, a policeman has an illegal short barreled rifle. The court says prosecutors had failed to prove Peterson’s semiautomatic rifle wasn’t protected under a federal law that gives police officers general immunity to own weapons that are illegal under state law. No, the law doesn’t do that. It requires the police departments to register their NFA weapons too. But don’t you dare own a handgun in Chicago.

A bill before congress to limit internet access:

COICA creates two blacklists of Internet domain names. Courts could add sites to the first list; the Attorney General would have control over the second. Internet service providers and others (everyone from Comcast to PayPal to Google AdSense) would be required to block any domains on the first list. They would also receive immunity (and presumably the good favor of the government) if they block domains on the second list.

The lists are for sites “dedicated to infringing activity,” but that’s defined very broadly — any domain name where counterfeit goods or copyrighted material are “central to the activity of the Internet site” could be blocked.

What could possibly go wrong? Giving the AG and courts the power to determine what websites you can peruse is what they do in Iran and China. Not here.

Caught The Walking Dead TV show last night. No spoilers but so far it’s off to a decent start, though slow for story purposes. I laughed at the zombie in bunny slippers. And that I got to hear the phrase zombie apocalypse on national TV.

On whether or not we can have a bipartisan gun rights movement:

But will a bipartisan consensus on this issue last? That’s probably going to hinge on whether there’s enough of a pro-gun movement within the Democratic Party to make it work, or whether there are enough true single-issue voters out there to help pro-gun Democrats. If the answer is no, we’re going back to being the crazy Uncle in the GOP attic.

It will be interesting. Gun owners are to Republicans what minority and gay voters are to Democrats. They pander to them in election years and they’re the first constituency forgotten when it comes time to do stuff. Gun rights minded folks need to work toward making gun rights a non-issue, that is one that every reasonable person supports.

While I do applaud the pro-gun Democrats exactly because I want gun rights to not be an issue, I hate the company they keep. Notably, I hate that they appoint anti-rights judges like the unwise Latina and Kagan. And, even if as speculated Kagan is on the right side of the gun issue, she kinda sucks on other issues that I hold dear. In the last decade, there are a few supreme court cases which I personally consider to be the most important in terms of affirming individual rights. Those cases are Heller, McDonald, Kelo and Citizens United. In every one of those cases, the supposed liberals / progressives / whatevertouchyfeelyeuphemismtheygobynow voted on the side of evil. And that is why I won’t be pulling the lever for someone with a D after their name for a long time.
