Offer not valid when they’re in power.

I woke up and it’s 1994 again

The Republicans have released their Pledge To America. Just like their Contract with America it’s full of stuff they’ll completely ignore in the event they control congress and the presidency for six years. You guys could have been working on that stuff all along.

Short term: Its great, it means they hear us.

Long term: Meaningless… They are politicians

  2. Spook45 Says:

Heh; Thats for sure. Thing is a whole bunch of these republicans that are about to be elected are TEA PARTY candidates, They are running on Constitutional platforms which is where they all need to be running and they are regular folks. They are not Washington Insiders, My hopes are that they will do what they say and listen to WE THE PEOPLE! I have said from day one “if they would just listen to the people and follow the Constitution, all the other problems would fix themselves” and I believe they will!

  3. Guav Says:

Spook45, who are “WE THE PEOPLE” or “the people” for them to listen to? That makes it sound like Americans generally agree on most things, and we don’t.

  4. Spook45 Says:

Notice it didnt say anything in there about gun rights. Makes me mad they will fight over Gay rights(n ot in the Constitution) these rights and those rights almost none of the special interest “rights” they refer too are not rights at all, but the one that is CLEARLY A RIGHT enumirated in the BILL OF RIGHTS in the CONSTITUTION they want to ignore, downplay and pretend it isnt a right? go figure…..

Would you rather wake up and have it be 2008 again?

    We’re ten years from that.

  7. John Smith. Says:

I feel your pain spook 45. I would definitely want to wake up in 2008 over 1994. The assault weapons ban just getting in place and pre ban weapons ramping up in cost.

  8. Ron W Says:

    Spook45, you’re absolutely correct!

We already have a “Pledge to America” and that is their oath of office. Why not the Constitution and Bill of Rights according to their specific wording for a CHANGE?!

  9. Tim Says:

Actually, I believe if you check you will find that they actually completed most of the Contract with America. But they certainly lost their way in subsequent years.

  10. trackerk Says:

Why does everything have to be so wordy. If these people wrote the constitution or the declaration of independence it would have taken a fortune in parchment to produce. It took 4 pages to set up an entire system of government.

This is the only contract, agreement, pledge I want:

“We will systematically roll back government to only necessary AND constitutional functions.”

everything else would be taken care of by doing that. I hope they do what they said they will. But my opinion is that politicians are bastard coated bastards with bastard filling. I can only think of a few that I am convinced have any convictions whatsoever.

No, you’re one election away from it if the Democrat party gets the reigns again…

  12. Jim Says:

Unless there’s mandatory term limits in there, it’s meaningless. The GOP had their shot to make things right and blew it big time. Only reason to vote for them is they aren’t Democrats — but that’s not that much of a reason.

  13. Joel Says:

I feel the last line of an old Who song coming on.

They got me excited in 1994, against my better judgment. Republicans won’t fool me again. I used to think, they were the lesser evil. Now I just don’t vote for evil.

  14. blounttruth Says:

It would have been easier to say that they pledge to uphold their oaths, then there would not be any need for additional words and they would represent the people. They are afraid to mention the constitution, bill of rights, federalist papers, and so on. Hell, the DHS now considers ones that memorize their rights under the founding of our nation extremists, but our entire legal foundation is based on the constitution yet if a citizen knows what rights are granted he is now considered a threat to the state? Somebody has this bassakwards and I think it may be the bureaucrats in the new DHS, which is nothing more than a CIA against the citizens of this nation….
Why does it seem that the legislation that is passed today works against the American people and for the specific politicians and special interest? It is good to hear people waking up, but they are working on a full out assault against the American people.

This is an astute observation, amigo.

  16. Tam Says:

I wouldn’t believe an incumbent if he promised me the sun would rise tomorrow.

  17. Ian Argent Says:

The voluntary term limits in the original Contract with America is what undercut that document. The reasonably-honest politicians term-limited themselves out, leaving the finks.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
