That’s just great. So after the same drivers drive the area for a while, they get used to seeing kids, and when the real thing is in front of them they don’t stop.
What a great way to teach people to ignore what should never be ignored.
We’ve got some outfit around here distributing yard signs with the images of children running, inscribed “kids dart, drive smart”. They’re not as blatantly obnoxious as this, but you wouldn’t believe how many people stick them in the wrong way, so the kids are running away from the street.
The Yahoo story has this quote, which blew my mind.
Dunne said. “Pedestrians need an attitude shift too. They have to realize that just because they are in a crosswalk doesn’t mean they are safe. In fact, most get hit while using crosswalks.”
That might make sense, if we weren’t talking about children.

Great. Desensitize drivers to the image of a child running out in front of them. That can’t possibly go wrong.

Just wait for the first squished kid where the driver says the kid looked like a hologram.
