My main beef against Apple

Don’t want anyone telling me what I can and can’t put on my device. It’d be funny if Microsoft got all Apple on Apple and disallowed installation of iTunes on their PCs. Of course, they could also block Google ads in IE.

That’s one of mine too. Of course the smug I have an “Apple that’s some how better than your PC because I paid twice the price for a machine that can do exactly what your PC does, but mine looks more stylish” attitude is really my main beef.

Microsoft is doing the exact same thing with the Windows Series 7 mobile, or whatever they’re calling it this week. You’ll only be able to install apps you get from the Microsoft store.

And MS, Google and Apple all want to track your every move and show you an ad.

And the thing has a Web browser, so it isn’t like people won’t be able to find porn.

The user experience in MacOS is significantly better than Windows. It’s a very well designed interface. The underlying BSD Unix system also makes it pretty versatile for working in a multi-platform environment. Generally speaking I don’t find Windows to play as nicely with others. My only beef in that department is that MacOS doesn’t work as nicely with Active Directory as I think it should. It used the Netinfo system left over from when it used to be NeXTStep up until Tiger. Leopard and Snow Leopard use a different system that’s XML based.

Hey, if it makes you feel better, Apple is buying ARM Holdings which is the company that makes their iphone, ipad, ipod chips. It just happens to also make the chips that power Android and Palm phones as well. So Apple will have their hand in almost every smart phone. Feel any safer yet?

But but … Apple has superior hardware! Even if their computers use the same components. But good luck getting a quad core processor in ther 2100+ laptop.

I’m more worried about the FCC telling me which frequency bands I can and can’t transmit or receive on than one manufacturer telling me what they will authorize to run on the devices they make.

Last time I checked, Apple doesn’t have roving vans full of men with guns and armor.

Its a free market, you don’t like what apple is selling, buy an android or whatever else.

I like the walled garden approach because I don’t have to worry as much about malicious software/websites.

So go forth and download your porn and your unsigned apps and see what happens to you. Its kinda like funning IE, Win XP and no firewall, you are asking for p0wnage. My advice, get a backup phone.

Uncle, all you have to do is jailbreak the iPhone and then you can put anything you want on it.

Will, you certainly can> get a PC for far less money than a Mac, but they are not equal machines: Apple just doesn’t make low-end machines, they make mid- and high-level machines.

A PC with the exact same specs as it’s Mac counterpart is often the same price or just slightly cheaper, not significantly cheaper and certainly not half the price. And that couple hundred bucks is totally worth it for the much more pleasant user experience.

The claim that when you get a Mac you are paying just for pretty design is absolutely absurd—the design is just gravy on top of a more stable, secure, and friendly operating system. I’ve been using Macs since they were ugly beige boxes for that exact reason.

If you really want to run MacOS, but don’t want to pay for Apple Hardware, you can always set yourself up a Hackintosh. It’s easier than ever now that Macs are basically Intel based.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
