In WV

Westboro Baptist Church, a group of assholes so assholish that even the KKK repudiates their activities, had decided to hold protests in WV, where the recent mine explosion claimed some lives.

Update: Looks like they’re heading to VT too.

They’d better watch their asses up there in WVa.

  2. SayUncle Says:

    yup. P/Oed rednecks are bad.

  3. Jake Says:

The bastards are coming here to Virginia Tech tomorrow, too. The counter-protest looks to be around 2,500 people, and will be held somewhere else in an attempt to draw the media away from them (and prevent a riot, I’m sure).

  4. Nick Says:

You don’t mess with coal miners in WV. True story. I hope those Westboro folks get what’s been coming their way for a while.

  5. Drake Says:

I would protest their funerals. Assholes.

  6. Drake Says:

    Well said, Nick.

I’m thinking a fun documentary would be getting together as many yarmulke wearing Jews, kefiyah wearing Arabs, pinko Castro neighborhood of SF gay dudes, some butchy lesbians, some priests and nuns, and as many Unitarians and pot smoking tie dyed hippie types and stage a massive protest in front of their HQ. Film the whole thing.

It’d be hilarious. The only problem is it requires going to the backwoods outhouse third world microcosm Fred Phelps lives in.

  8. Nick Says:

    @Sebastian: that would be spectacular.

  9. Andy Says:

As a long time Boone/Raleigh Countian, I think Fred Phelps picketing in Montcoal will work out about as well as 9/11-Truthers holding a rally in Pakistan.

  10. SebastianWho'llGetHisBlogRunningEventually Says:

There’ve been counter protests at their protests…but nobody seems to have brought it home to these bastards yet.

When JadeGold aka Guy Cabot was harassing me and posting some pretty lurid, offensive, personal stuff on my blog and on other blogs…nothing made him go away faster than linking to a Google Earth picture of his house.

Exposing assholism to sunshine seems the best method of hastening its departure.

  11. Kristopher Says:

Phelps only protests when the police are there to protect him.

If the local cops tell him to dial 911 if he has any problems, they pack their crap up and leave.

  12. Beaumont Says:

The Westboro bunch left Scott County pretty fast when they showed up for the cheerleaders’ memorial service, and were faced by a lot of very unhappy local folks. Eventually, they will encounter a group that shows less restraint.

  13. DirtCrashr Says:

I think they have already demonstrated that their time for restraint is long past, it’s threeper-time with tar and feathers.

  14. Bobby from USF Says:

They are holding a protest at University of South Florida on April 19th against a holocaust remembrance. Fellow students are beginning to organize a counter protest. I’m joining because correct me if I’m wrong these are the same guys who protest the military funerals.

Here is the link to the facebook group if you want to check it out.

Opps it didn’t go through right. Or at all.

THIS. Messing with the people who are the *origin* of the phrase “redneck” is not smart. Of course, “not smart” sums up what Phelps is, but still…

  17. Standard Mischief Says:

Please remember that Fred and his merry band of assholes have a legal team that is a branch of their church.

Their M.O. is to be as obnoxious as they can, while exercising their first amendment rights, all the while hoping to God that someone gives them what they deserve.

Then they sue the shit out of them. It’s that simple.

I really wish more blogger would point this out.

  18. Old Doctor Weasel Says:

Standard M, thanks for spreading the truth! A friend from Kansas explained the Phelps racket to me a while back. Too bad Phelps’ sheep are too stupid to realize that spreading hate with an eye toward profit is anti-Christian.

  19. John Smith Says:

You know I bet these nut jobs would just love the irony of a good old fashioned biblical STONING….

  20. workinwifdakids Says:

Tragically, there are all sorts of places people get lost out there, and outsiders tend to just wander off.

  21. DrStrangegun Says:

I almost wrote something I would probably come to regret.

The internet is forever. I know, I help keep it that way.

I mentioned it in my original post, but you’ve prompted me to repeat it again. Thanks, Standard Mischief.

Also, thanks for the link, SayUncle.

Sometimes these types need to be solved with a 3n2 protocol

I understand the sentiment, but this is hilarious.

“Redneck” refers to a sunburned neck. Coal miners. Hmmm …

That’s one version. The other version is that all non-union miners would wear red bandannas to identify themselves. Also, not all coal miners work aboveground. Most processing and support goes on “up above.”

  26. Nylarthotep Says:

I think this is a video of the counter protest.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
