Harry Reid and NRA

A lot of folks seem to be upset that NRA is getting chummy with Harry Reid. Why wouldn’t they? NRA is a single issue organization and Reid is good on guns. Harry Reid is probably why a lot of gun control bills never make it to the floor.

The NRA is welcome to get “chummy” with whomever they desire. My aversion to slime keeps me from warming up to Dinghy Harry regardless the single issue views that we might share. While I greatly value my RKBA, I more greatly value the hope that my children and grandchildren will not live in a dem-socialist distopia with a crippled economy. Harry Reid can rot in hell – I’ll take my 2A chances with his successor.

  2. anon Says:

The problem of course is that Harry Reid also uses his political heft to help confirm leftist Judges and other appointees that are hell bent on destroying the right to arms along with several other rights… Harry Reid does what he needs to to get re-elected in the short term while constantly working towards progressive goals (the destruction of liberty) over the long term. The NRA is incredibly shortsighted in this regard. Supporting pro-gun Dems is one of those things that _seems_ like a good idea, but is ultimately counter-productive. Modern progressive/liberal thought is a cancer on society in general and individual rights in particular. That a candidate is correct on a single issue is little reason to support one who is (endgame) working to destroy everything else that’s essential to liberty.

As I see it, Harry Reid is trying to use the NRA (and his gay bolt action shotgun) to get chummy with voters who are gun owners, not the other way around. I have yet to see or hear anything from the NRA that is trying to get Reid re-elected? Have I missed something.

  4. Mike Says:

If folks dislike Reid, they are going to love Chuck Schumer or Dick Durbin as one of them will be the next Senate Majority Leader if Reid loses. While the House is in play, there are simply not enough competitive Senate races for the Repubs to take the Senate.

As Majority Ldr, Reid has a great deal of control over what does and does not come to the floor. I guarantee you that right to carry in Nalt Parks, the Amtrak amdt, the right to carry reciprocity votes would not have happened with either Durbin or Schumer in control. As Ldr, those two will use every chance they have to screw gun owners into the floor.

  5. RML Says:

The message here is that one is welcome in the NRA or by gun owners only if one is a conservative Republican. Way to do effective outreach and grow the sport and numbers, guys. Clap clap clap.

  6. Nate Says:

Wow, RML has a little twisted panty syndrome. No the message is that the NRA is a single issue short sighted group, which is cool because that’s what they do. But the voters aren’t always single issue.
But nevermind RML, make up your own reality, that will be much more fun for you anyway.

  7. Kristopher Says:

RML: the sport is growing by leaps and bounds … that sport being informal shooting, as opposed to hunting or organized target shooting.

  8. RML Says:

I do live in a reality based world.

  9. straightarrow Says:

Harry Reid is a danger to liberty. As such he needs to go home and stay there. I hope the voters deliver that message.

As for the NRA, they are for the NRA and everybody else, including their membership can go fuck themselves.

    GFY as well.

What JD said. Straightarrow, you are about as straight as a brokeback snake.

  12. mike Says:

The Dems have a 59-41 majority in the U.S. Senate and nearly a 257-178 majority in the U.S. House. If guns are a partisan issue, we lose every vote. Gun owners need every pro-gun vote in the House and Senate we can get and you can’t get 51 in the Senate or 218 in the House without the support of pro-gun Democrats like Harry Reid.

  13. RML Says:

I once got a plank in our state Democratic Party platform recognizing the constitutional right to keep and bear arms. Oh, but I’m a threat to liberty as a liberal.

  14. Sebastian Says:

And how do you think we’d be faring right now with gun rights if NRA agreed with you and said “Yeah, fuck those Democrats!”?

  15. Sebastian Says:

I see Straightarrow continues his tradition of bringing class and substance to the debating table.

  16. Sebastian Says:

What Mike says at 11:20 is spot on. If Reid loses, you better hope the Republicans flip the house. Otherwise we have a leader in the Senate who will allow anti-gun measures to come to the floor.

  17. straightarrow Says:

There is nothing left to bring to the table that the NRA hasn’t already displayed. The truth of what I said has been proven, not by me, but by the NRA. I pity you weak souled sonsofbitches who need to belong so badly that you will accept abuse and betrayal for the privilege of being shit upon and pay a fee for it.

If you were honest with yourselves you could not help but see what NRA has so often and openly displayed when it comes to the political arena. They make damn sure they don’t achieve anything of substance and will derail any attempt by others to do so if they can. If they cannot, then they run around front and claim credit.

It is notable that some of you can’t see this, but have such hatred and disrespect for your intellectual superiors who can. Uh huh! I just said I was and am smarter than the intentionally afflicted ignorami.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
