the narrative

I’ve come out against the knuckleheads tossing bricks and threatening people over the health care vote that get press coverage. But the threats and acts of violence against opponents of the bill have been getting little play. For instance, little coverage of the Republican whose office was shot at and death threats against Palin and her family. But no Washington Post spreads on that.

Speaking of the narrative, it is taken as fact that the GOP opposed civil rights when that is not the case.

ETA: Aunt B. informs me in comments that police are calling the shots fired at Cantor’s office random gunfire. More like someone didn’t shoot at so much as they shot and it kinda landed there.

  1. Aunt B. Says:

Nobody’s been covering the Cantor office shooting, because no one shot at Cantor’s office. The police report says that some fool somewhere in town shot straight up into the air and the bullet came down through Cantor’s window. That’s not really “at.”

Aunt B: Would you buy that story if it had been Louise Slaughter’s window instead?

  3. Tam Says:

I do have to say that it was an amazingly convenient place for a stray bullet to land.

But still, the bullet hit the glass at a downward angle and failed to penetrate the Levelors; unless someone was firing down from a helicopter with an air rifle, that’s got “missed squirrel” written all over it. We’ll probably never know.

    Fucking laughable.

  5. Steve in TN Says:

I guess the unsubstantiated spit was random, too. And those unsubstantiated epithets… They had to be random.

    Oh, and those bricks. Random!

  6. Blake Says:

The right is used to receiving threats all the time from the left. It rarely gets any play.

  7. SPQR Says:

Don’t be surprised if some of the alleged vandalism turns out to be false flag operations like the vandalism against a DNC office during the Democratic National Convention in ’08 in Denver – where a Democratic activist was caught breaking windows at the Democratic party HQ.

I find it extremely amusing that these pricks stand up in front of a camera and say “violence is not the answer, it isn’t how we do things in America. Write you representatives, phone them, email them, hold peaceful protests, that is the proper way”

What they don’t say is that a Hell of lot of people have done just that for many months and they paid no attention, none. They went ahead and did what they knew most did not want and they threaten the citizen with death, no, that is not stretching the case, if they do not comply.

But three Goddamned bricks got all their attention in a heartbeat. Hey, these are their rules. They are the people who put them in place. I hope they are scared, they deserve to be.

  9. Guav Says:

Furthermore, the office ISN’T his campaign office. An office he sometimes uses during his campaigns is in the same building, but the window is not in that office, and the building isn’t marked in any way that would let anyone know that he’s connected with it in any way. And he knew that when he made his dramatic announcement, even if he may not have yet known that the bullet came from the air.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
