Is that an Iowa marriage certificate in your pocket?

Sergeant discharged from Chair Force because she’s a lesbian:

Jene Newsome played by the rules as an Air Force sergeant: She never told anyone in the military she was a lesbian.

The 28-year-old’s honorable discharge under the U.S. military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy came only after police officers in Rapid City, South Dakota, saw a marriage certificate from Iowa — one of the handful of U.S. states that recoganize same-sex marriage — in Newsome’s home and told the nearby Ellsworth Air Force Base.

She played by the rules and was discharged anyway. Don’t ask, don’t tell should also include a mind your own business provision if folks are going to go snooping.

Heh; she may have no legal recourse where the military is concerned, but I am betting that she could sue the po-pos and extract a hefty sum of cash for violating her rights as far as disclosure of information from inside her home. There are a lot of litigitory arguments here, but there is a lawsuit there some where. You cant really sue the Airforce per se, but you can SUE THE CRAP OUT OF THE LE that OVERSTEPPED THIER BOUNDS AND PROFESIONALISM. BUY MORE AMMO

  2. Rustmeister Says:

However they got the information, being in a gay marriage is specfically noted in DADT policy.

  3. Bill Twist Says:

Who leaves their marriage certificate lying around on the kitchen table? Mine is locked up in the fireproof safe, along with all the other important documents.

Having said that, it’s fairly obvious that they police informed the Air Force as retribution because she wouldn’t cooperate with them.

Hey, didn’t a certain president say he was gonna end that?

He couldn’t have been pulling our leg, could he have been?

Nahhh, it’s them Republicans who hate the gays!

  5. Justthisguy Says:

Why were the popo in her place, anyway? She shoulda had one of those “Get A Warrant” doormats.

  6. RobertM Says:

The story I read said her partner had a warrant in another state. They wanted her to leave work and help them find the other woman. She refused. They paid her back.

Just another example of a bad policy being being abused by a lazy government.

  7. Dave Says:

I don’t give a rats ass how anybody feels about gay marriage and whatnot. Folks that get off of their ass and actually serve in a branch of the military during wartime should be entitled to do what the hell they want in their private life so long as they aren’t breaking the law or bothering anybody. Well that applies to everybody for sure, but it should go double for the folks that volunteer to put their ass on the line.

  8. Dr. Feelgood Says:

    “She played by the rules…”

Um, no she didn’t. Engaging or attempting to engage in a homosexual “marriage” is explicitly named in the DADT law as a separating act — 10 USC 654(b)(3) — without further findings.

Not that I’m supporting the actions of the local cops, mind you. That’s a bit offsides.

  9. Lyle Says:

I’m all for the “Mind Your Own Damned Business” provision. Maybe it should be a constitutional amendment. Problem is; the Left would never go for it because it would put them out of business completely, overnight.
Where does a local cop see one’s marriage license? They are a matter of public record. Here, marriages are published in the local newspaper. Maybe he was looking to hurt this woman, and went through the county or state records, or maybe he just happened to see it and decided to ruin her. Either way he’s a dick.

    Well said Dave

  11. straightarrow Says:

He can’t be a dick. That’s part of a man. Don’t believe he is any part man.

  12. ParatrooperJJ Says:

The document was in plain sight. She has no cause of action against the police. As far as DADT she got off easy, they could have court martialed her.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
