Sorry, Unc, but, while saying someone else shouldn’t be able to say something with which you disagree is, itself, free speech, that doesn’t make your objection to the other person’s exercise of his 1A rights correct.
Saying you have the 1A right to say something is, in most cases (except, for example, yelling “Fire” in a crowded gun show), true, but it doesn’t mean you get a pass from defending the veracity of your assertion.
The 1A prtects my right to say something, but it doesn’t make what I say correct.
The ability to say something with which others disagree is the very essence of what the 1A protects.
Finding someone who believes the opposite to be true makes for good debate.
These people who are about to succemb to the vapors about what Tebow’s commercial need to get a grip or buy their own infomercial.
It reminds me of the knee-jerk reflex in academia to stifle, instead of foster, debate.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s totally clean, though. His teammates apparently knew his views well enough that they actively prevented him from being faced with some temptations, and he’s an MK (Missionaries’ Kid), and those tend to act very different from PKs (Preacher’s Kids).
Good for the Tebows. Maybe they can also show the sonogram-to-President one while they’re at it.

Tolerance is one ideal to which The Women’s Media Center may claim adherence, but this action to censor opposing views indicates otherwise.
Unless by “tolerance” they mean that everyone must agree with them, and nobody is allowed to disagree. Which apparently is an oddly frequent misunderstanding and misuse of the word.

What I found funny was that their missionary work was in the Philippines, which is one of the most christian coutries in the pacific area. I guess that they just aren’t the right kind of christians for the Tebows.

I think in this specific case the uproar is not so much about the message per so but about the fact that this kind of “issue adds” in the past have been declined as inappropriate for the super bowl (take that “we take gays” add from the Unitarians that got pulled a couple years ago). What smells a bit like “we only censor messages as controversial if we don’t agree with them”, what would be really bad for a network.
BTW forget the 1A arguments, we’re talking private company here, not government.

What makes you think Vols, Tide, and Dawg fans haven’t already been doing that for the past three years? 😉
Oh, and regarding missionary work in the Phillipines, two points:
1. The Phillipines is not overwhelmingly Christian: Google “Moro Islamic Liberation Front” — but make sure you search for the full name and not the acronym, MILF.
2. Missionary work nowadays isn’t just passing out Bibles to the heathens. Alot of Christian missionary groups help the dirt-poor locals build churches and schools and medical clinics and then stick around to help run them.

I would initially agreed with you on the Christian issue, till I checked out nationmaster.com…. Apparently the PI is 80% Roman Catholic. #2 is Islam with only 5%… kinda surprising. Your second point is spot on.

Yeah the Moros need more lead, not more Bibles. They are not interested in converting to Christianity, rather the opposite, and if the Tebows had gone to Mindanao the Gators would have had a different quarterback these last few years.
