Quote of the Day

Republican Congressman Jeff Flake regarding his vote against H.Res.784, a bill “honoring the 2560th anniversary of the birth of Confucius and recognizing his invaluable contributions to philosophy and social and political thought”:

He who spends time passing trivial legislation may find himself out of time to read healthcare bill

Well played, sir. Well played.

I’m pretty happy most to live in his district. It is nice that my representative actually represents me on a lot of issues.

There’s another layer of sham showmanship here on top of the useless bill. Namely, you have all these congress-critters voting to pass a feel good legislation about Confucius’ 2560th birthday, but I could probably count on one hand the number that actually know anything about his philosophy.

Then again, considering that Confucius’ philosophy was based on “honoring” one’s social and political “betters”, maybe they know more than they’re letting on…
