Parks, Knoxville, and the Gov. Race
Knoxville banned the law-abiding from going armed in their parks. And that ban will stand. Now, only criminals will be armed there. No surprise there. But this is a bit interesting:
Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam, who’s seeking the Republican nomination for governor, didn’t vote but gave the vote his support, saying the intersection of greenways and gun-free zones such as schools would make repealing the ban impractical.
“I think the best course of action would be to keep the ordinance we have,” he said.
This could be an issue for Haslam later.

They just can’t HELP themselves…..it’s in bureaucratic DNA to flinch at the thought of independent humans who might be able to defend themselves….

So, say you eased a bit of your land for a park and the city decided that land would be better off with some other use or modified the terms of easement agreement. Can you ask for the easement to be annulled? That’s really what’s at play here. There was a good chance that some of the property owners were going to go to court and say, “That’s not what we agreed to. I want my property out of the easement.” Greenways don’t work without easements. Then there was the TVA problem. The City of Knoxville leases the very popular Seqouyah Park from TVA. Who wants to bet that TVA said, “No guns or the park closes.” It was a much more complex issue than anyone admitted.

It’s a property rights issue? That is pretty desperate logic.
So when a person from out of town comes to Knoxville in a camper and loses their right to self defense is that a property rights issue also?

The church murders? It will always come to that in some people’s minds. So the “logic” is if someone is murdered then everyone should lose their right to a weapon?

The church murders were a tragedy. So now we should compound that tragedy by taking away people’s right to defend themselves?
