At 17, I have a LOADED 1911 in my room.
I USE to have an old Fox (Savage) BSE Model H side-by-side 20 gauge, and an M1 Carbine, accompanying it.

I have had access to guns since I was in the single-digit agegroup.
So have all my siblings and counsins.
Our solution? We were TAUGHT from an even younger age, not just bubble-wrapped.

My son dose not have access to matches, chain saw and guns. Will teach him how to use these things when he is old enough. Kids play with things that they are not supposed to play with because they are overcome with curiosity. If you are worried about your kid finding a gun and playing with it take them to the range and tech them to shoot. Than they wont be so dam curious and may listen when you tell them not to touch the guns.

umm the "then and now" link doesn't seem to bring up anything relevant. Could you please check this.

As for a gun hanging on the bedroom wall ... i don't think i would have a problem if the kids had an awareness of the difference between 'toys and real guns' ... and mine at least, seem to be aware of it (http://jigsawsthoughts.blogspot.com/2009/07/kids-and-toy-guns.html). I would be worried about some of their friends though.

I had a discussion with an anti-gun person here and they were insistent that kids should not be able to buy ammo.

I kept pressing with "How is this different than 50 years ago?" Someone bureaucrat just wrote a 'policy' that schools were 'gun free' and blammo, there is is. It sucks.

Bummer, dude. Who'da thunk the little kid could shoot like that. The irony of the the danger to the kid being from the goblin and not the gun somehow escapes them.

Penn& Teller BullSh!t just covered the topic of violent video games and mass shootings. They took a 9 year old gamer to the range to see if he would go on a rampage.

Part 1 of 3 (NSFW)

I think I've told you before that my samurai swords have always decorated my daughter's playroom? She knows they're not toys. (Now, the seven-year old klutz has aim for my forty-two year old Boy Scout knife. We'll see.)
