Speaking of Haslam
Campaign for Liberty on why not Haslam:
Mayor Haslam discussed the story as I explained and he said his intention in the entire situation was simply to “stop the wrong people from having guns”.
I asked him “what kind of people are you referring to that you say shouldn’t have guns?”
And he responded with “felons, criminals, and those without a permit”.Then I asked “so you believe we need a permit or permission to exercise a right guaranteed by the 2nd Amendment?”
Mayor Haslam said “well, for handguns yes”
I’m guessing Haslam probably meant for handgun carry and not ownership (i.e., handgun carry permit). Whether one agrees with that position or not, that is the law in this state.

Well, perhaps he meant handgun carry but his response seems to indicate he is unfamiliar with the difference between having a handgun and carrying a handgun. The first is a natural right for which no permit is required, the second is a right in which the TN constitution permits some legislative control. If you’re a mayor and you want to get involved in gun control, you might want to understand the difference.
I take him at his word since the question was not ambiguous. He wants those with a permit from having a gun. And how does he define a criminal if they are different than a felon?

According to the TN Constitution the government can only “regulate the wearing of arms with a view”. In other words it can only regulate firearms that are worn visibly.

Sorry guys, but it appears to me that Tennesseeans may be just as illiterate and redneck stupid as the Yankees say you are. Of course, I could say the same thing about my Arkansas. But seriously if we aren’t as stupid as we are portrayed, why do we keep electing stupid sonsofbitches who can’t read?
