		<description>It wouldn&#039;t surprise me if some were ordered to be there.  We were strongly, STRONGLY encouraged to attend some bill signings in my state this year, some of which bills I vehemently opposed, as did other officers. Remember, what rank and file officers want is often very different from what staff officers (who are primarily concerned with liability issues) want.

For instance, our state union helped remove a provision from a self-defense bill that would have removed the concealed carry permit requirement in Montana. 80% of cops in my department SUPPORTED removing that provision.  But at least here, unions at the state level tend to get far more input from the folks at the top levels of the departments than the foot soldiers.</description>
