Veto override

Tennessean reports, right next to that photo of Bredesen signing the restaurant carry bill next to all the officer who were probably ordered to be there, that an override is likely.

No kidding. Given that the bill was handed to him with a 2/3s majority in both houses, even if some pansy-assed politicians get cold feet, this should be easy to override.

  2. ka Says:

Maybe you Tennessean’s can ‘splain it to me, but it makes no sense that a veto can be over riden with a majority vote. Don’t the bills have to get a majority vote to be passed anyway? Wouldn’t that make any veto largely worthless or is there some dynamic that causes people to vote for a bill, but not vote to override its veto?

Looks like this could be the end of Bredesen’s political career, never cared a lot for him anyway…

  4. Steve in TN Says:

In 2006 Bredesen PROMISED TO SIGN THIS BILL. He broke that promise yesterday.

a debater on the tennessean says that “your acknowledgement of a permit to carry means the state can restrict that right any way they wish”

what do you say about that?

  6. SayUncle Says:

Anti, the TN constitution is pretty clear that there is a right to arms but that the legislature can regulate the wearing of arms.

I guess the advantages are to give both sides more time to reconsider the bill and to think about adding amendments.

Hopefully, no amendments will be added…

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
