Compare the two quotes:
“How many times when you are in a car do you think consciously, �My God, I am driving a very heavy piece of glass and steel with a tank of highly flammable liquid at high speeds near unprotected men, women and children. This a dangerous vehicle that could kill someone.�

And:
“If you�re so clueless you don�t even remember you�re carrying a deadly weapon maybe you should leave the [fudging] thing at home.”

I’d say nearly all people who carry never forget what they’re carrying, nor why, just like so many of us won’t tailgate another car (and get pissed when some other jerk rides your bumper) as well as constantly looking out for, and yeilding to pedestrians.

I’d say projection factors in to quite a lot. The jerk who tailgates or nearly hits an old lady in a crosswalk, is very likely anti gun because deep down they KNOW they forget and don’t want any more responcibility, but would be mucho-butthurt if they were branded as “irresponcible”

In medieval times, a tool like an axe that had harmed someone in an accident could be destroyed as if it were at fault for the accident.

That kind of silly superstitious behavior is what we see in the hoplophobic.
