Gun math

How many and who owns them?

How do I count guns that I purchased, but which have been designated as specifically for use by my children?

I mean, it would be embarrassing to call the Savage GY-1 22LR single shot, purchased for $65 from Walmart, with that short little stock, mine and mine alone. Especially when my little girl shoots it better than me.

I’ve often wondered where these numbers come from. This country was founded by gun owners. At one time, nearly every single household in every single state had at least one gun, with a few rare exceptions. That being said, guns don’t die. The birth rate may have out paced the production numbers, but considering how many of us collect guns that are over 100 years old, and the average number of “junk” guns in every collection, guns that aren’t shot because some simple spring is broken, but aren’t sold because they aren’t worth any money, the number of guns in this country is probably MUCH higher than 280 million.

The whole political incorrectness of having a gun, any kind of gun, in the home is a relatively new concept. Some people who have guns in their home might not even be aware of it, i.e. a spouse that just never told their significant other about the pistol they bought in college and have never shot. That person is still a gun owner, even if they are not an enthusiast. But if they were surveyed, how could their answer possibly be accurate? Who keeps track of those rusty “Junk” guns that and have been stored in a barn or garage for decades? My guess is that there are more gun owners and many, many more guns that people have simply forgotten about.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
