Credit

David notes NRA’s tendency to not credit the Second Amendment Foundation. That always bugged me too.

That’s always been a gripe of mine. It’s like they’re afraid the SAF or other groups are going to steal away their members or something if they give any credit where due.

When VCDL successfully lobbies for a new law in Virginia…even if the NRA pointedly did not support the effort, as soon as it passes, the NRA-ILA press release trumpets it as an NRA success story.

    Very frustrating.

During the time frame that the Katrina gun confiscation lawsuits were underway, I got a donation solicitation from NRA asking for money to help with that fight. They made no mention of the involvement of SAF or other groups. I sent an e-mail asking why the SAF wasn’t mentioned, when, any time the SAF reports on the situation, they always give NRA credit for their involvement.

I got a non-answer reply. I e-mailed back again and said that until they give SAF credit for their efforts on this manner, they might as well not bother sending me donation solicitations, because I wouldn’t be donating a penny.

They thanked me for saving them wasted postage. I’ve not received a donation solicitation from them since.

  2. Joe Huffman Says:

There is some “history” between the two. My family and I had dinner with Alan Gottlieb and his family once and he told me a great deal.

Friends on the inside at the NRA have told me their story too.

None of it is for public distribution.

I still give money to both.

  3. Kim du Toit Says:

The NRA has very much a “not invented here” attitude to anything gun-related they didn’t start.

When I launched the idea of National Ammo Day lo those six years ago, I wrote to the NRA and asked for their support, and their response was some crap about “NAD does not appear to be in gun owners’ best interests at this time“.

Makes me wonder when the NRA thinks it WOULD be in gun owners’ interests to stockpile ammo.

Hey, they’re welcome to peddle that line and have that attitude, just as it’s my right to call them a bunch of compromising wussies from time to time.
