Only Pretend Revolutionaries Are Cool

Via email, I’m alerted to some blogger who’s totally losing his/her shit because the folks on the right now sound like the folks on the left sounded four and eight years ago. Seems some freepers are getting their ammo box, civil war, blah blah, talk on. Suddenly, Free Republic has become Democratic Underground from a few years ago with talks of uprising, planning for the worst, and stocking up on sweet, sweet ammo. Irony level is pretty rich because said blogger complaining about it has that whole V for Vendetta theme going on but is calling the secret service over harsh words seen on Al Gore’s Internets. Too funny. Also, the blogger says these people are talking assassination, which they’re not.

Any way, I don’t mind so much. The Bush years turned a lot of lefties into gun nuts. In fact, the picture that Mr. Fifth Of November Poser used was prominent on a lot of lefty, pro-gun sites. Looks like the Obama years will get a lot of righties back into the gun rights movement.

And to round out teh st00pid: That gun looks illegal, too.

Really? How can you tell?

I like how in the comments Catherine and Skyewriter claim that they have no issues with gun owners. Oh, except when they challenge any of their dearly held beliefs on gun control. If you don’t agree with everything they say, your comments will get deleted from their blogs. Very un-V-like if you ask me.

  2. Bobby Says:

Hm, sounds more like “The Nose” then “V” to me.

  3. Rustmeister Says:

I’ve debated him a little on gun rights before. He runs with my old pal Catherine.

I thought him to be more reasonable than that.

    Oh well.

  4. RuffRidr Says:

Update from the linked blog post: “This post is not open for debate. Comments, yes. Debate, no.”

    Seems par for the course.

  5. BobG Says:

Damn, those people raise the term “barking moonbat” to a a whole new level.

  6. DirtCrashr Says:

Sheesh, PSH all over the walls. I don’t believe you can get through to them, they’ve made their convictions and are sticking to them – for lack of anything better or more objective: They have this bizarre idea that the Second Amendment gave them the right to “bear arms” to overthrow the government. It’s insane.

  7. Rustmeister Says:

I also noticed how a comment by “electric funk”, referenced by the blogger, does not appear in comments.

Sounds like ol’ Skye went to the Catherine MacIvor school of open commenting.

  8. mike w. Says:

    wow this chick is dumb.

    She says to Catherine,

“I admire the fact that you have kept your comments open; I know it’s been exhausting.”

Catherine leaving comments open? You’ve got to be kidding me. Catherine never did any such thing. I guess her definition of “keep open” is “close them and delete anything contrary to my views.”

What is it with anti-gunners and an unwillingness to allow open comments and debate?

  9. Phelps Says:

I fully expect this one to disappear down the memory hole:

    Phelps said…
    No…. I’m anti-assassinating-elected-officials.

Which is why your blog name references the Gunpowder Plot to assassinate virtually the entire elected House of Commons in 1605?

Perhaps you actually mean to celebrate the King’s Men who stopped Fawkes, but that generally isn’t the intent for those who use it.

Phelphs – The irony (and likely the history behind her blog name) is probably completely lost on her. We’re not exactly dealing with a rational mind here.

  11. Tom W. Says:

I think Skye is just alarmed at what seems like fantasizing about assasination on the freeper site. Yeah alot of this same talk went around some far-left circles for the last several years (although I don’t know about the first THIRTY days of the Bush administration). But since when do two wrongs make a right?

  12. Thirdpower Says:

Well at least they called the right people this time. Kelli claimed she called the Nat’l Guard on me.

  13. Number9 Says:

Have you seen people talking very quietly to each other lately. Their talking about their retirement accounts and their concern for the future.

Forget Free Republic, watch people in public. They’re worried. The most reckless thing Obama could have done was to suggest that the banks be nationalized. Too many rookie mistakes from a very green President.

Check out Beranke trying to talk everyone down.

Now who is going to take Pelosi and Reid to the side and calm them down?

Feb. 24 (Bloomberg) — Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernanke rejected the idea that officials plan to use reviews of banks’ balance sheets as a pretext for government takeovers of the nation’s largest lenders.

The Treasury will buy convertible preferred stock in the 19 largest U.S. banks if stress tests determine they need more capital to weather a deeper-than-forecast recession, Bernanke told lawmakers in Washington today. The shares would be converted to common equity stakes only as extraordinary losses materialize, he said.

“I don’t see any reason to destroy the franchise value or to create the huge legal uncertainties of trying to formally nationalize a bank when it just isn’t necessary,” Bernanke said at the Senate Banking Committee hearing.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
