   I didn’t say I wouldn’t go shooting! Maybe I will sometime (and that was a very kind offer). I am saying I don’t want to be responsible for protecting other people with a gun in a crisis situation. Because I know that I have some shortcomings that make me a poor candidate for that critically important job.

   You declined my invitation to this weekend’s shoot. And didn’t say anything like ‘maybe some other time’. So, I assumed you declined. If I’m in error, I’m still happy to take you to the range.

   I didn’t read carefully enough. I apologize. I didn’t see there was an actual shoot THIS weekend. Let me go back and look and see if it’s a time I can get babycare.

   I’ll be there at about 11:30. It may not be the best first trip to the range for you since it is a competition. But it would be good to observe. We can hit a local range for some one on one as that would likely be a bit better venue for it.

   Where is this competition?

   I think I would give you a better view of my inability to handle a gun if I could actually demonstrate my ineptitude to you rather than just watching others who actually know what they are doing.

   Rifle range road. Instead, let’s shoot for a lunch time at the range one day next week. Or perhaps in the evening at Coal Creek Armory.

   Good luck, Unc. She does seem touchy/defensive.

   Katie, instead of “demonstrating your ineptitude” (and real ineptitude would be something like ignoring range rules and handling your gun during a cease-fire–a *BIG* no-no which could have the Range officer ask you to leave immediately), just show Unc what you know, and be open to suggestions on ways to improve. Target shooting isn’t combat shooting, but you have to start somewhere. Good luck.

   Katie also strikes me as someone of a Leftish persuasion; So am I, so I’d say she might want to look at/ponder:

   This reminds me, I still need to get to East Tennessee so that:

   A) You can take me shooting, as previously promised.
   B) You can collect the beer I owe you as a result of Obama beating Clinton in the Democratic primary.
   C) I can collect the beer you owe me as a result of Obama beating McCain in the general.

   Pity that East TN is so blasted far away from West TN! If we didn’t have families and responsibilities, I’d suggest meeting in Nashville. 😉
