That statement is doubleplus true. The Carbon 15 pistols are even too light to make decent paperweights once you give up on trying to make them run with anything like reliability…

If it’s a toy this doesn’t apply, but I tend to agree with people who say that pistols should be pistols and rifles should be rifles.

Pistols should be holsterable and able to be fired one-handed. Rifles should have a shoulder stock so they can be aimed accurately. Bonus points if the handgun is concealable and the rifle shoots a rifle cartridge.

Tam’s right – it’s a noisy, finicky toy, and with a 7.5″ barrel, you can chuck a 55 grain .22 caliber projectile with a lot less noise and expense per round – .22LR. All the extra gas pressure between .223 and .22LR is burning outside the barrel in a giant eardrum-popping fireball.

BUT, if you want a highly impressive toy, the RRA is probably the least fucked-up of the current offerings on the market. Get the foam pad by calling Bushmaster, but do not, repeat, do not, buy their AR pistol.

You might consider ordering the 9mm version from RRA pistol…I don’t remember if you have a 9mm AR rifle, but it’s a hell of a lot cheaper and more practical in pistol form than it’s .223 cousin, and an easy future SBR path as well.

(I mean, unless it’s just a toy and you don’t mind tinkering with a probably balky gun. I could think of a lot more practical things on which to spend money, like fur hubcaps for your car, or glow-in-the-dark ice cube trays…)

I bought one from Spike’s Tactical and love it. Probably the most fun AR I own. I was having some cycling issues early on that was caused by the short barrel and not a big enough gas tube, but I threw on a Noveske KX3 compensator on it and haven’t looked back.

Like everyone else has said, they’re pretty damn loud (a little less w/ the comp). I only shoot mine outdoors.

I’ve never really “got” AR pistols.

Seems to me that if a big handgun doesn’t fit the bill, a pistol caliber carbine (or an M1 carbine) would.

RRA has a huge backlog at the moment, so good luck with getting an AR-based pistol if you have to order it. They’ve already dropped their line of 1911s to focus on AR manufacturing and the company is still behind on orders. The quality of the rifle I purchased from them was worth the wait for me, but you sound like you’d like to get an AR-based pistol sooner than 12 to 16 weeks from now. That goes for upper halves as well as complete firearms.

If it shoots .223 don’t bother. Get a set of icepicks to throw at BGs because the effect will be the same.
