While he was gone his wife left him. Before she flew back to the states she called one of those time/temperature numbers and left the phone off the hook. This is Europe where local calls aren't free; you pay for each "tick". Guy got back from his deployment and got hit with a 7,000 USD (after exchange rate) phone bill.
