Jake, I am going to have to respectfully disagree. If John Kerry had been elected in 2004, would John Roberts and Samuel Alito be on the Supreme Court?

With the good possibility that Justices Ginsburg and Stevens could be retiring, we can’t have Obama appointing their replacements.

If my hypothesis is right, then McCain will pick Lieberman.

Wow, Obama really *did* fuck this up.

We need to focus more on congress, anyway. If we can take back congress, with a sufficient majority, the presidency becomes much less important (and much less dangerous). Congress has the lowest approval ratings ever. We probably have a good chance of success, if we focus.

Perhaps. If a guy joins up with Big O and he loses, the most powerful Dems are still…The Clintons. Unless a feller can prove he was the Veep for no other reason that to sabotage Big O, I can see a real downside to having been Barry’s Veep.

Of course, from what we hear Biden hates the Clintons anyway. So he may not give a damn. Plus, he’s a Delaware institution so its not like Bill and Hillary can hurt him much, anyway.

Oh, and the people who said that Hillary ever even wanted to be Obama’s Veep are still very very wrong. And stupid.

The Obama supporters better pray that McCain picks Lieberman. That is the only hope they have. Or Dick Cheney or Darth Vader.

That’s a very real possibility. Let’s just hope that McC dos’nt screw the pooch by picking a lamer VP of his own.

All McCain has to do is this: “Obama says this. Biden says this. Now what the fuck does Obama/Biden say?”

They seem to say pretty much the same thing. On guns, Obama’s a Joyce fanboy and Biden’s got Assault Weapon Ban proudly written all over him. Economically, they’re both pretty harsh collectivists. On abortion, they’re both too far in the NARAL camp to make friends with antiabortion folk, but made enough gaffes to alienate a lot of NARAL voters. He’s typical Democratic on oil and energy.

The biggest difference that I can find is that Biden was for the war before he was against it, but he’s ranted so much against Iraq — even submitted a withdrawal plan through the senate pre-Surge — that I can’t see him taking a middling stance now.

Again, I have to agree. There it is.

Bredesen would have been a brilliant pick in comparison. Does anyone understand the logic of this? Is Howard Dean a double agent?

McCain better not screw this up. He’ll be bad as it is, especially if he picks Norman The Mormon as his veep, but, well *better* isn’t the word, I guess less sucky would cover it.

Fiscal conservative, lifetime NRA member, and she can be a draw for disaffected Hillary supporters.

Plus she’s kinda hot.

If he does, it will cause me to seriously wonder if he really does want to be president, or if he just likes to campaign for president.

The rifle displayed was an AR type with a plain muzzle and
of the variety sometimes referred to as a ‘post-ban
rifle’. In other words the rifle in question was fully
compliant with the 1994 federal “assault weapon” ban.

Savor the irony of Senator Biden having a fit over a
gunnie who owns a ‘Biden law’ rifle! That incident speaks
volumes about the ignorance and hostility of Biden, who
lusts for the power to rule over us.

COOPER: Senator Biden, are you going to be able to keep
his baby safe?

BIDEN: I’ll tell you what, if that is his baby, he needs
help.

Really in touch with the common man (he makes a big deal
about being not well off while growing up).

I think he just made an admission against self-interest.
I don’t know that he is mentally qualified to own that
gun. I’m being serious.

Yep, he really hates us, but unlike The One was up front
about it in the primary. This high level of disrespect
actually got some notice at the time (see below).

Look, just like me, we go around talking about people
who own guns. I am the guy who originally wrote the
assault weapons ban, that became law, and then we got
defeated and then Dianne Feinstein went to town on it
and did a great job.

BIDEN: Look, we should be working with law enforcement,
right now, to make sure that we protect people against
people who don’t — are not capable of knowing what to
do with a gun because they’re either mentally imbalanced
and/or because they have a criminal record, and…

And by his definition, I’m sure all of us are mentally
“imbalanced”—that’s a particularly wide net to case, as
the phrase is used. And a bit chilling in the context of
McCarthy’s somewhat successful efforts in this area.

COOPER: Time.

BIDEN: Anyway…

(APPLAUSE)

COOPER: We got one more question. Before…

BIDEN: … I hope he doesn’t come looking for me.

embodiment of the left-wing attitude toward gun owners. So
when snide Joe Biden confronted a YouTube user who asked
Democrat presidential candidates about gun control during
a debate Monday night, what unfolded was a Teachable
YouTube Moment — the caught-on-tape embodiment of
ideological snideness toward the Second Amendment and
those who defend it.

… decided he’s already won the election???. Here’s an

Obama’s gun problem

Barak Obama has a problem. It is a problem that has
plagued Democrats for years. It lost the 1988 election for
Michael Dukakis. It lost the 2000 election for Al Gore. It
probably lost the 2004 election for John Kerry. It lost
control of Congress for 12 years for Democrats. It could
lose the 2008 election for Obama. The problem is
guns. Democrats know that they have this problem. They
don’t know how to respond to it.

Several years ago I saw the results of a survey that was
privately conducted. The Survey showed that for 7 million
to 10 million voters the protection of the private
ownership of firearms was the first and most important
factor in deciding how to vote. Since the founding of the
National Weapon Association in 1871, only one candidate
for president had the backing of the NRA and lost:
Winfield Scott Hancock who lost to James Garfield in the
very close election of 1880.

The author then goes on to talk about how the “single event
which made this drift a cascade: the ban on so called
‘assault weapons’”, which Biden takes credit for writing:

The general public, many liberal politicians and the
political police chiefs obviously did not know [ that the
AW ban was basically cosmetics---except the author forgets
about the new > 10 round magazine ban, which would have
eventually bit us hard, and certainly put a damper on new
gun designs ]. Gun owners, however, were only too well
aware of the hoax and the purpose behind it. They knew
that it was the camel’s nose under the tent and reacted
furiously, voting the Democrats out of power. They have
not forgotten and do not trust Democrats, even if the
Democrats say that they are not anti-gun. Unless Barak
Obama fixes this, he could lose the election.

Picking Biden shows he doesn’t care about the issue, or expects to win without the votes of 7-10 million single issue voters on this, and all the ones who factor it in as well. Does he believe all the young he’s getting registered will stick with him and vote in the fall? Note that you can’t gerrymander the nation, nor is he likely to be able to get McCain removed from the ballot as he did for all his opponents in his first election in Chicago. We’ll see if Chicago Rules works for the rest of the country….

Honestly though, other than the plagiarizing and constant foot-in-mouth syndrome, I can’t think of anything specific about Biden.
