The mosquito is scaled down.

I've always wanted a conversion kit for my 220. Guess I need to start saving my pennies.

jefferson101:

I had it over at the neighbor’s place about a month ago, and he had his Buckmark. We were shooting at a paper plate with a big marker dot in the middle from 10 yards, and I was lucky to hit it three times per magazine. He handed me the Buckmark, and I pretty much wore the black dot out of the center of the paper plate with it, so it wasn’t just me.

It probably *was* you. But that just means you shoot a Buckmark better than you shoot a Mosquito. ("Not that there's anything wrong with that!")

Sounds like this will go back and forth for a while.

Honestly, and in full disclosure, I'm not much of a rimfire shooter, and I haven't heard of a single .22 Semi-auto (Pistol or rifle) that gets glowing reviews on reliability....so I bought a Smith and Wesson 617 10-shot revolver. Holds as much as the Rugers, sigs, walthers, and whatever (and won't wear out my finger reloading it!) just as accurate as the price bracket I paid for, and will shoot ANYTHING I can feed into, from mini-mags to crusty ammo a friend pulled out of the back of his closest, and I don't even have to clean it if I don't want to (but I do).

That's my 2c

I bought one of the Sig Mosquitos about three months ago, and so far, I kind of wish I'd gone with a Ruger.

I'm leaning toward adding the Red Dot sight to it, just to see if it's the sights or just the pistol. I can always unload the whole thing if it doesn't help, but if something doesn't, I'll not be the owner of a Mosquito much longer.

Sad, but true.

I've put roughly 2000 rounds through mine since I bought it in March, and I love it. It is a little picky about ammo (CCI Mini-Mags preferred) and it does need a regular bath, but it's a pretty easy pistol to like. There are two or three other Mohito owners at my range, and we all like 'em fine.

Some people talk a lot of shit for not having one.

I have one, and it shoots fine. Never had trouble with it. The mags are pricey but that's about it. Don't need more than 2.

I wonder what the actual selling price is? $369's WAY too steep for my blood.

but $200, $225 would be doable...

Yes, I could get a Mosquito. As others have mentioned, I've heard not so good things about them. I'd like one solely because it has the same controls as my P220.

But the advantage of these kits is I don't need a NICS check and an 8 day waiting period to get a second .22 caliber pistol. I have a compatible gun so it is good value for me.

It wouldn't be an issue of kit vs. Mosquito if were talking about 1911.

King a large for a .22 an't it? Can you still get the .22 conversation kits for the Makarova 9mm? That was a cool addition!

Hmmm.

I've put ~3000 rds through mine in the last two weeks.

Is that serious?

I like mine a lot, although it needs cleaning every few hundred rounds. (I've been spoiled by my Glocks.)

In addition to being cheap fun, it is similar in shape and controls to the pistols new shooters are buying for self-defense.

I also have a Walther P22 that I bought for the same reasons, and I like the Mosquito a LOT better than the P22.

(Not sure if that shines.) ;)

P.S. The Mosquito is finicky about blood type.

I have good results with the Federal in 550-rd Valu-Packs. A friend also loves his Mosquito, and reports good results with the Federal, and terrible results with the Remington Value Pack Golden Bullet.

The owner of the shop I frequent is kicking himself for the Mosquitos he bought. Sig has lowered the price on them now, and he can't even move the stock he bought already.

I have yet to hear a shining review from anybody who's put a serious round-count through one.

Yeah, except the Mosquito is just a really expensive paperweight. With this if it sucks you can at least put your main slide back on it.

I like my Mosquito a lot. It is a good range pistol for practice. Don't get me wrong, I'm no expert. I suck as a shooter having only purchased my first weapon, a CZ P-01, in May. In short order I fell in love with shooting but not with the price of 9mm ammunition. Granted, it's only 20 cents a round but 200 rounds a week plus range fees is more than $200 a month. So I bought the Mosquito for weekly use. And though I won't be entering any competitions (did I mention that I suck?), I walk out of the range with a smile every time.
