Shortly after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the District of Columbia’s gun ban, the District, Mayor and City Council are being sued again over the District’s thinly veiled attempt to continue its restrictions on firearm ownership. D.C. residents Dick Anthony Heller and Absalom F. Jordan, Jr., in conjunction with lawyers for the National Rifle Association (NRA), filed a complaint against the District of Columbia and Mayor Adrian Fenty challenging D.C.’s Firearms Control Emergency Amendment Act of 2008.
Kinda puts to rest the conspiracy theories about how NRA didn’t want Heller to win so they could stay in business, eh?

Well quite obviously, the NRA is just covering their tracks now. After all, with the discovery of a pro-gun mole among the gun-grabbers recently, that must mean that the NRA is run by the true gun-grabbers! They still want Heller to lose, and for DC to restore their ban!

Seriously, I don’t think the NRA wanted Heller to lose so they could stay in business, and I’m not aware of anyone who does. It is a matter of record that the NRA tried to spike the suit in the beginning, apparently because they were afraid of the precedent if it lost, and were willing to sacrifice the precedent of a win to avoid the risk.
So now we have a compromise bill that “narrowly enforces” the Supreme Court ruling. The devil’s in the details, but if (as is likely) this denies Heller standing in his new suit, I’ll be disappointed with NRA leadership if they compromised much.

It has been known to happen that when someone see which way the parade is heading that they run around up to the front to say they are “leading it.”

Hopefully NRA won’t screw the pooch now. There is a reason they were shooed away before. If they end up screwing us all with some bogus compromise, I for one will never forgive them.
