We need another Glock v. 1911 flame war

It’s like five months ago all over again.

Back in February, Chris wrote an epic primer entitled So, you want to buy a 1911? A basic primer.

To which, PDB wrote the much shorter Glock Primer.

Now, Xavier has penned A Guide To Your First 1911.

And Ahab has a guide for Glocks/Beretta/etc.

Heh. Every thing old is new again.

Next, we’re going to have a thoughtful discussion on 9mm vs .45, reasoned discourse on gas piston vs direct impingement, and a panel on Kirk vs Picard.

Pretty much yeah. I would like to think that I was just pointing out the ridiculousness of the whole damn thing. Buy the gun you want, shoot it a lot and carry it. If a 1911 fits your hand and your preferences, fantastic.

Any color you want, so long as it’s plastic… πŸ™‚

    I bought a 1911 as my first pistol. I bought a S&W .357 as my second. A S&W .44SPL is third.

Crap, no plastic yet?!? Well, I’m planning on a P3-AT as #4. πŸ™‚

Glock grips don’t fit my hand very well; just a matter of preference.

    All of you are silly.

One can always buy more than one gun. The only thing better than one gun is TWO guns. And the only thing better than two guns is THREE guns. And the only thing…

A kid (twenty-something) in my office got a 1911 last weekend. I just had him google “Saint John Moses Browning”–he’s currently having a good time reading all kinds of pro-1911 stuff, starting with The Gospel According To John (Moses Browning).”

I do so love being a good influence. πŸ˜‰

1911s fit my hand and I grew up with them, military family and all. One of my best shooting buddies grew up in RSA and grew up on 9mms which progressed to GLOCKs in .40 since. We’re about equally matched at IPSC/IDPA/Pin Shooting etc. Either will kill a thug.

They both work. Pick/customize a reliable model of firearm with a grip angle and feel that suits you and shoot what you like and can shoot well. That’s all that matters.

Almost forgot: …but remember, if it’s really important than nothing hand held is entirely reliable.

I’ve got about 5 times as many rifles as I have of either shotguns or handguns. Can we start a rifle vs shotgun and handgun flamewar too?

There is a company machining metal frames for Glocks, but where can I get a plastic frame for a 1911? Yeah, that’s it– a double-stack, plastic framed, nickel slide, DA 1911 with a laser and tritium. Ultra-compact, with a 2-inch, ported, match-grade barrel, extended ambi safety and an extension mag that holds 18 rounds of .45 GAP. Nothing else would even so much as get the attention of a drug-crazed attacker, much less stop him. This thing would penetrate an engine block, then drop him like he was pole-axed, with a single round. I’ve seen it happen while advising the SEALS over in the Sandbox. Just the sound of racking the slide on this baby, or even flipping the safety, would cause everyone within a three-block radius to dive for cover instantly. If you don’t want one, you’re not only the dumbest person who ever lived, you’re worse than Hitler.

How am I doing? Oops– I forgot the long string of caps, FOLLOWED BY A WHOLE BUNCH OF EXCLAIMATION POINTS, IN TURN FOLLOWED BY SOME QUESTION MARKS, SO AS TO EXPRESS EXASPERATION AND INCREDULITY!!!!!!!????? That is of course the best way to get people to take you seriously (I think they teach that in jr. high English these days).

It’s certainly better than half a dozen concurrent threads about Scaring The White People by writing letters to the Editor.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
