We have the same problem in some smaller cities in North Carolina. I dug out all my old receipts for the purchase of my firearms. Then I scanned them into the computer and used the forms to create receipts for those that didn't have any.

I printed out copies of all the originals and 'recreations', laminated them and put them in a folder in the trunk.

If they are going to make a bogus request for a bill of sale, I am going to give them a bogus bill of Sale.

We had similar problems here in Texas. The law used to be very vaque on carrying a concealed handgun in ones car. There was a provision that said you had to be traveling, and the definition of traveling was not consistent between counties at all.

The legislature decided to take care of this by changing the law so that you were presumed to be traveling. Some asshat DAs decided to ignore it and instructed their LE agencies to arrest anyone carrying a gun in their car, and fight it out in court.

Finally our legislature corrected the problem by removing the traveling provision, and we are allowed to carry concealed handguns in our vehicles as long as we are not engaged in criminal behaviour now.
