If a person calls the police and says she or he is being threaten or harassed by someone all the police can do at that time is take a report and advise that person to take a copy of that report and go to the courthouse and obtain a warrant. The police cannot do much at that time. If that same person has an order of protection she can show it to the police and after they verify it is current, they can arrest the violator without a warrant for violation of the order. The person that took out the order will then appear in court to tell why the order has been violated. All it does is give the police more arrest authority and may stop a bad situation right there. Instead of "protection order", they should be renamed "License to Kill", and should only be good in a given state or county, and can be executed by the person to be protected, or anyone that person designates. Give the person it is issued against 24 hours to move away immediately, and hold the protected person in protective custody for 25 hours. Issuing one should be a last resort by a judge ... and not a matter of course during a divorce. These stupid things need to be renamed.
