Congress should simply repeal home rule, and hire a manager to sort out the mess.

Completely replace the city code ... no gun laws, no welfare, and expedited eviction laws.

Clear out the welfare plantations, and gentrify the place. Our capitol is an embarrassment.

WB, polling data abounds to show that liberals, especially big city liberals, think guns are icky and want to ban them. Frisco's most recent attempt at banning guns was by voter initiative. Having lived in/near both cities, I can assure that Chicago is only marginally less knee-jerk liberal than Frisco.

I live and work just south of D.C., and am in constant contact with residents of the City. It would amaze you to see just how many of those people think that they are safer without private gun ownership. And when gun ban groups state that "the streets will run red with blood", many of them actually believe that. The psychology used on these folk is very powerful, and the ignorance of current law, and what the law is to be, is astounding. I work with one guy that thought that the Heller decision would require him to have a gun. He's agin' it, BTW.

Does that mean that Chicago bans guns because the majority of people in Chicago want guns to be banned? Any polling data to back that up? I'm not being a smart aleck, I really want see the data.

Chris, I hate to be the one to break the news to you, but these numbers are radically different in all big cities, especially D.C. If D.C. residents generally supported the right to self-defense, there would have been no Heller case as dreadful ordinance would never have been passed in the first place.

City officials will have to figure out what they can see and how to balance the court's ruling with the wishes of a citizenry that mostly disapproves of guns.

considering the percentages of people nationwide that believe in private ownership and use for self defense... i cannot imagine that those numbers arent the same in DC...
