More anti-gun astroturf

This time, they’re bringing in the God squad!

I hopped over there to check out the reasoned discoursetm. This post on the idolatry of the gun is amusing. It’s not amusing because of all the bearing false witness with statements like representatives refuse to regulate guns as consumer products, which I guess is like sinning for the cause, eh, reverend? It’s because she says that the gun seduces with false power and teases with illusive security. And that is particularly amusing when it’s her sort that believe these idols cause death and mayhem all by themselves. These evil idols cause evil all by themselves! Guns are the devil!!!!

I wonder if the good reverend can exorcise the evil spirits out of guns?

Update: Speaking of anti-gun reverends

Update 2: She has exorcised her blog post: Down the memory hole!

Not to mention the fact that she lied about Heston and Columbine. I guess she never got around to the 10 Commandments.

    Guns are the devil!!!!

    Thats not right, its:

    Guns are da debil!!!

Hey Uncle, check out these tired old lies on their website. (my emphasis)

Why should you join the Coalition?

Because the suicide rate for children 0-14 years old is TWICE as high in the U.S. than in 25 other industrialized countries combined. There is no difference in the non-firearm suicide rate between the U.S. and the 25 other countries. Virtually all the difference is attributable to suicides being committed with guns in the U.S. [1]

BECAUSE we are losing eight children a day to gun related deaths!

[1]Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. “Rates of homicide, suicide and firearm-related death among children – 26 industrialized countries.” Morbidity Mortality Weekly Report. 02/07/97; 46:5. 101-105.

Lets see, they are using an 11 year old report and the group is not even a year old. The CDC hasn’t released an updated report since 1997?

Second they imply children are those 0-14 in the “because” above it, but use that tired old 8 a day death rate. I am guessing they are using the 1997 figures for that too, or the old bait and switch and using 0-21 year olds in the group.

The CDC’s last batch of numbers are from 2005 and 0-14 year olds killed by a gun (for any reason) was 404. That would be 1.1 children a day, not 8.

It’s those pesky 24 year-old children i keep hearing about!

  5. Lyle Says:

Oh look; a gun! By golly, I think I’ll kill myself.

    then

Oh look; someone killed himself. We’d better rescind the Bill of Rights. That way, no one will kill themselves any more and the world will become a good and happy place, just like it was before the invention of the gun.

    Got it.

The Old Testament… oh, never mind. Arguing with people who hide behind God is just a waste of time. Suffice it to say, my Christianity and my belief in the 2nd Amendment live in the same happy house.

  7. retro Says:

Damn all those 0 year olds… I told them to stay away from my guns.

  8. Amanda Lynn Says:

A Huge debate today, as a matter of fact, the Supreme Court has actually for the first time in the History of this debate, decided to hear both sides and interpret the meaning of the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution. So why is it that people would want to outlaw guns? I just don’t get it. You say guns kill people. WRONG!! The person who pulls the trigger is the one who makes the decision to shoot, nothing else. If we’re going to blame guns for murders, then I think we should start blaming our cars for speeding and our pencils for incorrect answers on tests.
Taking away our right to bear arms is like taking away our right to fight back. Criminals want unarmed victims and Dictators want disarmed citizens. Do you really think that if we outlaw guns, the crime will disappear with them? I think not. If a criminal has the desire for a gun, even if they’re outlawed, he’ll still find a way to make it happen. People smuggle so much stuff now days. So a criminal breaks into my house threatening me and my family. He’s threatening me and the people that I love. Then what? What are we supposed to do to defend ourselves? So you take away guns and take your way to fight back
As United States Citizens, our ownership of guns is what helped keep Russia from invading us in the past. Sure, they were a strong and powerful empire with the military capabilities necessary for conquering our military. But if they would’ve tried to come into the U.S. and fight the citizens to take over the country, they couldn’t have done it. The fact that we all owned guns showed that there was no way for them to take us over. We wouldn’t allow it. We, as a people defending a nation would’ve fought back and won.
So today, we have this debate. This “2-sided” argument. But I can only see this: I see the productive benefits that come from having the right to bear arms will far out-weigh any complaint against this right. So please America, be reasonable, be smart, and think about this. Besides, Ted Kennedy’s car has killed more people than my gun ever will.
As a 16-year old, gun-owning, straight, white, high-school educated, politically informed, Christian Female, I am a Proud Supporter of the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
