Back in the Seventies I owned a couple of these, made in Japan (which does not allow private guns, at all, so collectors buy replicas) and which came with a US Federal certificate to the effect that they were not real, could not chamber or fire, etc. Looked very indistinguaishable from real weapons, even disassembled much the same, and fake ammo was available. I would not carry it around openly displayed (hey, I was living in Taxachusetts!) for fear of being drawn on by some poor cop.</description>

Seriously, the purpose appears to be the demonization of firearms. First, a parental permission will be required to allow a kid to have a toy gun. Then when the other parents start hyperventilating that they are opposed to having Johnny play with his toy gun around little Julie and Jasper, the rule will change to &quot;no toy guns allowed at all.&quot;</description>
