Obama has been talking out of both sides of his mouth:

I think there is an individual right to bear arms, but it’s subject to commonsense regulation” like background checks, he said during a news conference.

In the same article however:

At his news conference, he voiced support for the District of Columbia’s ban on handguns, which is scheduled to be heard by the Supreme Court next month.

"The notion that somehow local jurisdictions can’t initiate gun safety laws to deal with gang bangers and random shootings on the street isn’t born out by our Constitution," Obama said.

It's a bogus position and when the SC rules that the DC ban is unconstitutional, by that time, Obama will (maybe) have locked up the nomination and he'll have to say up front how he disagrees with the decision.

straightarrow,

Good point re: McCain. I also don't trust someone who has atacked the First Amendment, nor someone who worked with Bush, Kennedy, Clinton, Obama and the National Council of La Raza (The Race) to legalize the invasion of our country.

Michael,

Of course, Clinton and Obama will disregard nma refuse to our individual RKBA since they both voted FOR gun confiscations (2 or 14 senators to do so) in the event of "declared emergencies"---and they're both vying for the power to declare those emergencies!!!

I seriously doubt McCain means it. But that could just be my somewhat understandable doubt of a man who co-sponsored a law killing the first amendment. I have doubts that he would support the amendment that protected the one he already destroyed

I guess this is old news but, as I recall, neither Hillary or Barrack sign the amicus from Cheney, the Senate and the House that supported the individual rights interpretation.

I did happen to be hear Obama on TV a few weeks ago say that he expected that the Supreme Court would rule that the 2nd Amendment protected an individual right. My impression was that he said it with a an attitude of resignation in opposition to his own anti-gun rights feelings.
