Armed men roaming the streets of NYC

Kinda scary:

In the first counter-terrorism strategy of its kind in the nation, roving teams of New York City police officers armed with automatic rifles and accompanied by bomb-sniffing dogs will patrol the city’s subway system daily, beginning next month, officials said on Friday.

Actually, they’re not new. The Hercules team has been around a while. The patrols are new. And here they are in one of their finer moments:

Yes, that’s a member of this tactical team with his weapon sight mounted backwards.

I also just noticed that he’s holding the weapon by just the magwell. I see no evidence of the other hand being anywhere near the pistol grip and/or trigger.

Of course, given that he’s an “only one” that may be for the best.

How long before they have to justify their existence?

Sure am glad that we don’t live in a police state.

    “automatic weapons”
    — I still don’t understand why LEO’s need full auto. It is an indiscriminate fire device, intended for suppression or widespread discharge of bullets. That isn’t within the role of any non-military use. Especially LEO – they are supposed to be responsible for every round they fire. Not just what they hit, but what they don’t hit. In their hands, the weapon should be used only for near-perfect accuracy, not “spray-and-pray” (which even the US Military is moving away from due to issues with possibly killing innocent civilians in urban settings).

So, tell me again, why are people who are responsible to ‘protect and serve’ armed with weapons that are designed to indiscriminately destroy?

Ooo! Look at the big muscles! What does he even need a gun for?

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
