The most amazing thing at SHOT was there last year, and it is Kel-Tec CNC's High Efficiency rifle. Imagine getting a .308 with a 32 inch barrel, that loads from USGI M14 magazines, has front ejection (over the top of the barrel and down a tube) so there's no flying brass. That 32-inch barrel means you can load your .308 with slower powder, and get .300 WIN Magnum performance out of it.

This year, Kel-Tec said that they ARE going to produce the rifle, and the first it will be available will be in early summer. That's cutting it close to the probable forthcoming ban on such weapons, but if one positions themself properly, it's not unreasonable that one could be acquired before such a ban.

The MSAR uses proprietary mags, has a "forward assist", cast receiver and is about $2k.

This unit,
http://www.tpdusa.com/

uses AR-15 mags, has a machined receiver and may be a little cheaper. Also the folks that are making it are very nice to deal with.
