Criminal law already deals with people who act badly. The vast majority of gun laws seek to control those who are innocent, and especially those who are the “wrong color.” A good portion of gun control laws started out as racist attempts to keep guns out of the hands of Obama-looking people. As they still do. Look at the cities that have the most draconian gun control. Then look at which cities have large african-american or hispanic populations. Lotsa matches there.

Actually go read the newspaper on actual armed citizen-thug interactions (that is, genuine, everyday Joe Sixpackcitizens who can be expected to obey the law — you know, the kind you want to disarm with laws — versus thugs. Not two gangbangers — you know, the kind that don’t pay any attention to your laws — sorting out their “turf”). Even with the element of surprise, thugs do very badly when confronting armed citizens. They are generally killed, wounded, and/or driven away, with the citizen receiving little, if any harm. Not a perfect record — nothing is a guarantee but it’s the way to bet. However, if you want a sure bet, disarm the citizens. Without fail crime and violence will go up. Ask Britain.

Also check the National Crime Victimization Survey. Citizens who resist thugs “who get the drop on them” (which of course is everyone accosted by a thug) do suffer less injury those who “give them what they want.” The citizens who suffer the least injury, who are most effective in resisting, use — you guessed it — guns.

Yes, the readers above caught you out on this one. Face it — Bellisiles was a fraud, and more importantly, so was his work. Not just a couple footnotes. If you’ll pardon the expression, shot through and through with fraud, falsehood, deceit, in every element. Columbia, no bastion of the NRA, examined the smallest possible subset of his work and STILL had to give him the boot. The fact that you would base any argument at all on this rubbish illustates the bankruptcy of the gun control movement.
