That time has long since passed. I don't know anyone who doesn't fear them now. Those who deny that they fear cops are simply lying. Do not take my word for it, though. Just pay attention to all the people you know personally and watch what they do, see how they react, and watch how they avoid exposure to them even to the point of not contacting them when victimized by crime.
