A repeat of last year indeed;

It’s a free market man. Should you wish for a wii, you should expect to pay fair market value (which at the moment is around $500 on ebay). If you wish to pay less by purchasing from limited supply provided by retail outlets then be prepared to compete!

I’ve been calling my local gamestop every day for a week after I missed two opportunities to pick up a wii.

(I don’t mean to be mean or anything; it’s just that your comment bugged me)

Update; I got my wii a few weeks after that, and yes, I did stand in line for 4 hours. If it's any consolation, Nintendo has no intention to "drive up anticipation," they just want to sell more wiis. They're building a new factory now to meet demand. I can't imagine they thought it'd be so popular for so long.

I will never buy one based solely on its name.
     "Where is Windy?"
     "He's in his bedroom playing with his Wii."
Nope, not buying.

Very highly over rated, IMO. Having spent an hour or so playing on one, I know I won't be wasting any cash buying one.

They actually crank out a pretty steady rate of these. The problem is that they are so much more popular that stores haven't been able to keep them in stock the entire year. I bought mine in May, and I had to get in a line even then. Our local Best Buy has gotten 30-45 of them every weekend, and they are gone in less than an hour or two every time. Quite simply, the Wii is both cheaper than the other platforms and just more fun for everyone. Unlike the XBox 360 or PS3, my mother and my nephew can both sit down and have fun playing the same games together.

the scarcity is keeping their price point up. They want to make money on the consoles unlike Microsloth and Sony...
