It doesn't really matter how nice, heroic, and caring a guy is if he violates pretty basic rules of gun safety; the gun didn't know, and didn't care.

Tools are like that.

And, yeah, it's tragic, and as in most tragedies, the worst of the consequences were visited upon the innocent.

Uh. Do we really need more militarisation of the police?

It certainly would'nt hurt. Military personnel are much better disciplined than cops and those that are combat trained are defintely better shots.

It makes no difference how much training one had if he doesn't use it. He didn't. His wife is dead at his hand. And the worst thing about it is that he didn't mean it.

That's right! The worst thing about it is that he didn't mean to kill her. How much of a disgrace is it to kill someone by accident? At least when you mean to kill someone, there has been a determination made to do so. It is a conscious decision.

Could it be any more of an insult to someone's existence than to not take even minimal precautions to avoid killing that person? How could you insult his/her life more than by not regarding it of enough importance to consider the impact your actions might have upon it even though you bear that person no ill will?

One who does that holds others' value pretty cheaply, despite any protestations made on their behalf.

Just for the record, Ryan had more training and practice with firearms in his little toe than any of you twats will ever have - so let this be a learning experience for yourselves and quit this condescending ass bullshit like you're somehow more knowledgeable about the subject than he is. Maybe the thought process should be - "ohh shit, if this happened to this expert, I should be even more careful. My prayers go out to this Marine and his family. The worst day of his life for earning the bronze star was just beat by the new worst day of his life."

Gee, maybe not everyone who wants to be a cop is an asshole Helvetix. Ryan was courageous enough to save others' lives under fire twice. Maybe he actually gives a shit about the America people like myself and most Marines do.

"According to an article in the Marine Corps News, Osbrink joined the Marine Corps to prepare for a career as a police officer and in hopes of joining a SWAT team."

There is no excuse for this.....none. If you have to use your gun for practice you can get a training barrel from Blade-Tech. This replaces your barrel with a yellow insert which allows you to practice with your duty firearm.

I posted on this as well. I can appreciate practicing a draw with a full magazine as the added weight changes things somewhat, but to do so in your own living room and with a round chambered, and with others nearby, is just not a good thing.

I feel for the young man and the families, but as a veteran, he should have known better. It is one thing to be comfortable around firearms, but one should never get too comfortable.

I'll bet he just got out of the sandbox.

Soldiers pulled from combat need at least 6 months in garrison, with weekend passes, to decompress. Our military now dumps them right into the street. Not good.

Not a valid excuse for ignoring the 4 rules ... but probably a contributing factor.

I'm sorry that this happened, very sorry, but this man should NOT be hired on as a LEO. Practicing a quick draw with a loaded pistol tells me that his head aint on right.
