I don’t know about Knoxville, but I don’t go near the Trashville ‘hound station without my sidearm. My girlfriend recently took the big dog to Florida & back, & said her SP101 was a great comfort.

That’s what I call it too, “the dog”. I’d rather be riding on the cushions, even if that means Amtrak.

The last time I rode “the dog” was when I went to basic training in 1973, Turlock California to San Antonio Texas. It was the worst trip of my life and I vowed that I would NEVER ride the dog ever again and have kept my vow.

Took the Greyhound once from Atlanta to Savannah, and back again. That experience alone convinced me to never do that, ever again. I do not know what it is about bus terminals, but wow…

Took the Grayhound from Santa Cruz to LosAngeles and across to NewOrleans for MardiGras one mid-semester in college. Took it back from Birmingham Al to S’Cruz – saw the seamy-side of everything – on and off the bus and in NO. On the bus wasn’t much different than off. A couple ahead a few rows had gotten on at different stops and found seats aside each other, argued angrily the whole way during the day, at night while crossing the Texas panhandle made the humped beast in the seats… It was all very surreal.

I once stayed at a hotel near a Greyhound station and a women’s shelter. Fortunately, it was in a city in either North Dakota or Montana, with a relatively small populations and crime rates.

So do they purposely build Greyhound terminals in crappy parts of town, or anywhere you put a Greyhound terminal just turns crappy?

I will say that my first desire to carry a gun was spurred by the time I had to go pick up an international student who got lost coming into Logan and ended up on a Greyhound to Western Mass. I would not go back again. I can’t believe she wanted to stay in the country after seeing that shithole.
