Weaver would be in prison today if a deputy sheriff who was there as a liason hadn't developed a conscience and decided to tell the truth after first repeating the lies LE told about the encounter. After the shooting, if you recall, Weaver was charged with attacking them wholly unprovoked and was charged with many counts. Right up until the truth came out.
