Last year when I asked Uncle where he lived and he told me I was too embarrassed to say I didn’t understand and I let it slide. It wasn’t until much (many weeks) later when I was reviewing my Sitemeter than I saw Maryville show up in the context of Uncle that it clicked as to what he had actually told me.

So, yes, Uncle does have an accent. But I’m not sure if it was my ears growing accustom to it or Uncle adapting to his surroundings but I stopped noticing it for nearly all conversation after a few minutes.

My wife made the comment when we had first started dating, upon hearing my mother’s answering machine, that she had the thickest southern accent. I couldn’t hear a thing.

Like I commented at Joe’s place, it is actually wonderful to see people’s faces (in detail mind you, not hidden behind a firearm, sunglasses, or heaven forbid a motorcycle helmet!). Next GBR, I will make even a stronger effort to make it. Heck, I’d be more than glad to help organize it if y’all want to head down to Orlando instead.
