I’ve never fired one but a friend of mine was once accused of having an unprovable hypothetical, I think that means it had no proof marks. He said the recoil from the thing was immediate and harsh depending on company. I think he meant the people around when he used it, not the company that made it.

OTOH he stated that some people readily accepted it and said they had actually seen documentation that his hypothetical was actually a reality. He said in that group there was almost not discernible recoil in horror. I guess that was the shooting range where they tried it out.

His hypothetical turned out to be a reality and the more of them, the fewer injuries and deaths occurred, now that’s the kind of weapon to have.

If one of my professors felt threatened by a piece of plastic, nylon, or leather that is sometimes used to carry a firearm, I would drop their class and ask the school for my money back.

I don’t blame you. If I weren’t retired, I’d wear an empty holster to teach class. Course, I’d get dragged into the Dean’s office for it, but it’s a hypothetical.

That they are now The Establishment, worthy of being mocked for their pretentiousness and buffoonery. They are the people they were warned about, thirty years ago.

But, sad to say, there seem to be plenty of folks that are truly afraid of someone who would wear a holster. I have family members like that. And again, sadly, it’s because they believe it represents a dark and violent side of the wearer. Sigh.

Absolutely agree. I’m just attempting to say that it’s best to stay on good behavior and be respectful of others, especially when they become irrationally irate over free speech and expression.

To open carry shouldn’t bother anyone. Today’s media has made us paranoid. For faculty to carry handguns I don’t have a problem with that provided they been checked out mentally and physically, basic police trained, qualified as Expert Shooters and handguns loaded with frangible bullets.

Beyond silly is without doubt or question. Anyone who uses fear of an empty holster to squelch free speech or intimidate a protester with an empty holster is well deserving of censure.

That being said, I’ve been to protests where someone is so verbally and physically (by posture) offensive to the other side that bodyguards have interceded.

All this to say: When your cause is to convince your neighbors to trust each other and to trust you, it behooves you to be trustworthy and present yourself as such.

Secondly, no one is afraid of an empty holster. The writer of the letter was telling faculty and students how to punish the participants by use of campus police to harrass, detain, and bully them in response to complaints of “fear”.
The same words also served the purpose of threat to the participants of what kind of treatment they can expect if they go through with it.

Sheesh guys, pay attention. Think beyond the camouflage.

On the other hand, I like how the VP of Student Affairs gave the teachers a hint on how to stifle free expression.

Free expression? Did’nt you know? You’re only allowed freedom of expression if it’s something the libbies approve of.

Neither state law nor campus policies prohibit wearing such leather items, so anyone who participates in this event is within his or her rights. However, if any faculty member or student feels genuinely threatened, they should feel free to call the University Police Department. If you would, please pass this along to your department chairs and faculty.
