Thanks for the info Joe. Good to know. I doubt I'll be open carrying in NV, except maybe at the range. I'm not a huge fan of it anyway, but if people did it, and it wouldn't cause a panic, I would give it a try.

I live in Drano, open carry isn't specifically outlawed here, but they will nail you for felony "brandishing" PDQ. Same in the urban areas of Washoe County, once you get rural no big deal. Also the state laws are changing, some reciprocity is coming but it will be late in the year at best before we hear which states. By the way loaded HANDGUNS are ok in a vehicle as long as they are not in something like a fanny pack or a purse, they consider that a cancealed weapon. Until he passed away this summer at somwhere between 96 & 100, one of my friends drove around town in his old Lincoln Continental with his pit bull sitting in the front seat next to him and a cocked and locked 1911 on the dash. (At 13 he was a Marine on the paddle wheelers on the Yangze River... ie "The Sandpebbles". Fought in WW2, Korea, and Vietnam. Seved in the Marines, the Navy, the Army, and ended as a "civilian contractor". Quite a guy and a true gentleman.) Long guns are considered unloaded if the chamber is empty. Mags can be loaded and in the gun.

Too damn many commiefornians have moved here to go back to the days when I could walk down the street with a 22 rifle and no one was concerned.

Forget about the carry question. The important question is "are you bringing Bitter?"

If you'll be going back to NV at some point, you should set aside a day to do your non-res CCW. They will require you to qualify with the gun you're going to carry, so you'll have to factor that into your selection of sidearms.

Have fun and shoot well!

<blockquote>Stay the hell out of Clark County...</blockquote>

Since he's going to Reno, that should be the easiest advice in the world to follow. Clark County (Las Vegas) is a good 400 miles from there, kinda hard to stumble into by accident.

"Stay the hell out of Clark County and watch your tail near the casinos."

Definately. Acually take care ANYWHERE in the vicinity of a casino. I've had people approach me and ask for a "gambling loan" while filling up at a gas station in Reno, Las Vegas, and West Wendover. They ofton get real insistant and sometimes very angry when you say no to them so watch out for these types.

I wouldn't open carry anywhere it's not common or accepted. If it is in Reno, I wouldn't mind doing it. If not, no biggie.

Chris Byrne would know better than I would, but the <a href="http://opencarry.mywowbb.com/forum36/475.html" rel="nofollow">overmind</a> seems to agree that <a href="http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cache:QdNF6mVkqZ0J:www.packing.org/community/general/thread/%3Fthread%3D8214+Reno+%22open+carry%22&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=6&gl=us&client=firefox-a" rel="nofollow">Reno's not overwhelmingly bad</a>. I'd recommend being careful where you go, though. Stay the hell out of Clark County and watch your tail near the casinos.

If you have time, I'd personally aim for a non-resident permit, under SayUncle's "Don't scare the White Folk" rule, but the requirement to appear ahead of time probably makes that impossible even if you did have a lot of time.

Eh, I can refrain from carrying if it's a hassle. I just was wondering if anyone knew what the deal was.

I don't think open carry is "OK" in the county Reno is in. Nevada is quirky in the bigger gambling cities. Also, I don't recall ever seeing anyone open carry around Reno. I'd check with the Sheriff's department.

Glad to hear your going!
