I read your attacks on William at NiT. You weren’t able to refute any of williams posts for 2 reasons, 1) they were always linked to documented facts, and 2) you can’t smell shit when you see it … because you’ve had your nose up George Bush’s asshole for way too long.

That editorial wasn’t written by a liberal saying that Thompson isn’t conservative enough. It basically wonders what the reaction from social conservatives will be to his much-younger wife.

I admit I’ve wondered myself if social conservatives can stomach Guiliani in particular, who not only has a, shall we say, colorful marital history, but who has supported abortion rights and gay rights.

That’s not the same thing as me thinking he’s not conservative enough. Not even close.

Huh? I truly don’t understand this quote. I’m a liberal, I hang out with liberals, and I’ve never heard one criticize the current crop of Republican contenders for “not being conservative enough.”

Well, the issue isn’t that the Democrats are saying that the Republicans aren’t conservative enough. They are stating that the Republicans are hypocrits.

Since conservatives are concerned with family values this is damaging for candidates that try to appeal to the group. This is why outing Republican senators for being involved with prostitutes is so effective, for example.

Liberals on the other side hardly seem to care about family values, and tend to think that the government can be used to dictate what values should be upheld. This is why liberals can be so forgiving of politicians that show moral and ethical lapses.

I like the distinction that goes like this: Republicans are afraid of their sexual urges, and so legislate to control them. Democrats are afraid of their greed, and so legislate to ameliorate that. (And I guess you could say the Libertarians are afraid of both guys and so want to disarm them.)

If one looks objectively at the political spectrum, on the extreme left you have total government whether communism, fascism, dictator, king, etc,. or some other people control form. On the extreme right, you have no government or anarchy. In the middle, maybe toward the right side, you have a Constitutional Republic where the rights of the people are declared and protected by law and the government is restricted by law with only specific delegated powers. In that power corrupts, most polticians of the so-called left and right consider the limited government of a Constitutional Republic and Bill of Rights as extreme. They differ only in how and what they rights they want to deny us. Therefore, I’m considered an “extremist” and a “dangerous citizen” to those of that ilk.

I don’t look so much at left and right but view politicians as patriots or tyrants.
