If everyone is so hysterically worried about school shootings, then why are they taking away the quickest way for authorities to be notified if one starts?

Me too… I had a pocket knife in my backpack every day from about 5th or 6th grade onward. (Usually a thing of advil, too. Football season caused a fair number of headaches) And I graduated in ‘00–late enough that I’d have gotten expelled if I had gone to the public school in my neighborhood.

where do you stand on kids carrying knives to school?

If they carry it, they’d better know how to maintain it is my stance.

I carried one daily, and that sucker you could shave with. Actually, my current pocketknife is incredibly dull by comparision. (In my own defense, when I was in HS, I had a LOT of spare time to sharpen knives and the like)..

When I was in high school, we all did. Of course, we also had a smoking section.

Cops in schools is very controversial in NY.

When I went to school there in the early 90s, they began installing metal detectors. In my school they turned them off after the first week.

There were probably a dozen schools with violence problems but they made it a city wide money-wasting scheme instead. I didn’t realize there were schools without them in the city.
