My 1st, and most important, suggestion would be for the "officials" to READ the blogs!

I'm of the opinion that if any government officials, local or otherwise, were to ask for advice from citizens it'd just be a attempt to get more votes and would most likely happen only on a election year and would be dropped right after the election.

Besides, since when did any elected officals listen to or care about anyone who didnt fund their campaign?

One of our local city concilmen runs a blog (http://www.kellercitylimits.com/). The comments are sometimes pretty good. Other times they're downright frustrating.

Still, I think it's a good forum for him to address things in detail that don't make it into the paper.

Gov't officials interacting in public comments? Ouch. Sounds like a nightmare to me. Comments are all well and good, but then somebody has to clean them up when the inevitable idiots arrive. And that's a rat's nest.

And I really don't want my gov't officials wasting their time with comment battles (and you know the same types of argumentative people who frequent blogs will take up with the guy running the DMV or the parking violations bureau).

Comments sounds like a good idea. In practice, probably not.

I concur that comments and addressing them are key if they really want to get input.

That's funny. They're really not in the input business are they?
