My DL number and my CCW number are identical. I am reliably informed by state officials that the numbrs will be matched up the next time you renew, if they aren’t already. You’re right, TN is a “notiy” state, but that law is irrelevant, since a DL lookup will clearly identify you as a CCW anyway.

They need to know that they are not invisible and that their actions have consequences.

The CCW holders certainly didn’t pick a fight, they were just trying to be able to defend themselves.

If outing them is not harmful (as I am confident the journos would acknowledge), then outing them should not be harmful or invasive either.

I agree with DocB. I’d rather not have my CCW status advertised on my license. Sometimes, when I can’t be armed, I leave the license and anything else that would tell a potential pickpocket or mugger “Guns may be stolen here”. Plus, you guys issue out of state licenses, and TN couldn’t put an endorsement on my PA license.

I can’t recall whether TN is a notify state, but upon being pulled over, I don’t want the officer to automatically know I’m carrying. I know there’s a big debate on that issue among our community, but I’ve always been of the opinion that what the officer doesn’t know, won’t hurt him. I don’t want to risk handling of a loaded weapon around a cop or by the cop unless I end up having to reveal to him I’m carrying for other reasons. Since I don’t plan to shoot a police officer, I have never understood what’s to be gained by telling them.

While we’re asking, can we get a bill passed that treats your CCW permit like a drivers license endorsement?

You know, I thought about this too, but as a very frequent traveler, I like to stay under the radar as much as possible as I go through TSA screening at the airport just in the interest of saving time. No sense creating a hassle for myself by advertising the fact on my DL.

It can be said that it is bad form to shoot someone. I disagree with that if that someone is invading one’s home with intent to cause harm. Though not as immediately dangerous, what the Tennessean did is comparable, ergo it is not bad form for them to share the risks to which they have exposed others.

I looked and could not find anything on public information about both the Publisher and Editor of the Tennessean. In fact you will find it very difficult to find out anything of public information about the higher ups at any major newspaper. They tend to be almost invisible. But how they love to make public every one else’s business.

Some of the greatest hypocrites in history are publishers and editors. This case is just another example.
