A so-called “assault weapon” is just a rifle. Right now an 18 year old can buy an SKS or Romanian SAR. They would raise that age to 21, arbitrarily.

Why 21? What’s so magic about that number? Why not 47, or 52?

Tell me about it. My eighteen-year old nephew, who is living with us while going to school, cannot get an Illinois FOID beause a person under the age of 21 needs the consent of a parent or legal guardian who is himself eligible for an FOID. Since neither of his parents live in Illinois and there is no court order appointing me or my wife his legal guardian he is SOL.

I thought it was already against federal law for anyone under the age of 21 to possess a firearm other than a shotgun or rifle (the penalty being the same for any felony possessing a gun), and it being against federal law to sell or transfer a handgun to anyone under 21. I’ll have to look up Omnibus, but I really don’t see the point of this.

Still am surprised to see it come out of Texas.
