What is so racist about what Biden said? I mean, obama doesnt really have anything going for him except his charisma and wholesome appearance and the novelty of his skin color. Isnt this what we have been hearing for months? He certainly doesnt have a long and distinguished career behind him.

Calling a black person articulate is a nothing more that a nice way of saying that he or she doesn't talk like most black people.

If I were Colin Powell, I would deck the next reporter who called me articulate.

The man is a General with several stars on his shoulder (if my memory is correct) - he should be, and is, articulate.

It's kind of funny that people don't call General Norman Schwarzdopf articulate, although he certainly is.

My opinion is that if you believe blacks are equal, as they are, you should treat them equally.

By that, I mean don't add points to their test scores, don't award them contracts when they don't beat out the competition on a level playing field, and expect them to raise their own kids, not go to prison and speak decent English.

I would be really upset if I were a black professional who got into professional school on my own academic performance and had the rest of the world assume that I got into my profession on an affirmative action basis.

I asked a good friend of mine, who has been liberal his whole life, whether he would permit a physician, who got into medical school under affirmative action, perform an important operation on his child.

He said "no way!"

In that regard, back in the early 1980s, Harold Ford, Sr. exhorted blacks in Memphis to use black, and not white, professionals.

The evening newspaper (RIP) then named his doctor, his dentist and his attorney, all of whom, of course, were white.

Who, then, is supposed to utilize the services of professionals who get into school under affirmative action?

I find myself getting off on this tangent, because I see the attempts to achieve diversity as a kind of modern day religion which preempts the objective to achieve quality students, professionals, employees, contractors, etc.

I think that people are, and should be treated, equal.

It's just not real popular these days.

Obama does have a lot of charisma.

In Afghanistan, they voted based upon a headshot picture of the candidate on the ballot list due to the high rate of illiteracy and lack of information sharing.

He would run very well in a ballot like that.

Uncle:

It's not so much what he said, but how he said it. You can challenge Obama's substance without doing so in as racially-insensitive a manner as Biden managed to pull off. And yes, Obama's race factors into the attention he gets, but I'd expect a skilled politician to know better than to touch that aspect.

“I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy,” he said. “I mean, that’s a storybook, man.”

The first??? Not at all. Remember Bill Cosby, General Powell, Condi Rice? But none of those could possibly be a Democratic candidate nowadays, so they don't count...

I agree with you in the fact that they did not defend him. However, they handled it the way the did because they are against him. They know he can't win, so they get to dispose of him the day he announces his candidacy. Had this been Hillary, I think it would have been treated differently.
